Youth Leaders Exchange in Culture chapter Tokyo and Yokohama #6

Testimony

An experience of a lifetime.
First of all, AMAZING itinerary. We explored multiple different places every day, tried different kinds of foods and snacks, interacted with inspiring speakers and guests, took tons of photos, and definitely had SO much fun. However, I’m giving a special shoutout to the Waseda University visit and tour agenda (thank you PPI Waseda). I learned so much from it. Especially since I personally am a student, it felt so refreshing seeing how students from other country have different academic lifestyle.

Secondly, I love the pre-YLEC activities. For the Japanese lessons, our Japanese teacher (Kak Dilla) was very interactive, encouraging, and supportive. She welcomed any mistakes that we made and taught us how to fix them one at a time. The facilitators were always there to answer our questions and doubts, so don’t worry. The leadership simulation was also very fun, we had a fruitful discussion and a heated debate HAHAHA. For the book chapter, I think it made us bonded even before the trip to Japan. It let us know each other deeper and work together as a group.

Thirdly, the impact. Since the main aims of this batch were to create place for Indonesian youth to learn foreign cultures and become a better leader, as one of the delegates, I would say that GoldNation has completely nailed it. Culturally? We made our own Japanese calligraphy painting, we created innovations that bridge Japan and Indonesia to tackle cultural issuues, and we learned numerous of good habits from the Japanese (I even started to stand on only the left side on the escalator). Did we learn how to be a leader? Absolutely. We were divided into several groups, which from the beginning we made projects with, and did group activities with in Japan.

Last but definitely NOT least, the delegates. Here’s a note to the future delegates: if you are scared that it would be awkward, don’t be. YLEC delegates are definitely the friendliest and funniest delegates you’d ever meet. I spent most of the time there laughing and having fun. If it wasn’t due to geographical issue, I would 100% force them to hang out with me after YLEC.

To conclude, do I recommend you to join? YES. YES. 100x YES.
